Respected Leader, Industry Precisionist

Frank Esposito has spent more than 35 years managing every facet of business. He is a master storyteller of events and people – including his own experiences – and his leadership and sales insights go far beyond textbook sales training.

I hired Frank as the Keynote Speaker for our annual national training seminar, and I could not have been more pleased with the results. Frank’s lecture, ‘Are You Proud to be a Salesperson?’ is not simply about sales skills and techniques – rather, it is about profession, it’s about what it means to be a professional, it’s about commitment, it’s about decisions. And it’s one heck of a fascinating story about the journey of life.

Frank’s personal and professional challenges have shaped his commitment to be of Service to others. Debilitating injuries sustained in a near-catastrophic motorcycle crash enabled him to embrace dramatic life changes – to grow personally and professionally. When the medical community said he’d never race again and may never walk again, Frank proved them wrong: He endured more than 50 orthopedic surgeries and two years of rehab, and made a successful return to off-road motorcycle competitions!

Frank refined his approach to sales and life as a three-decade-long corporate leader. He relates his experiences with failure and shows you how to harness the deep resources of strength, perseverance and confidence to achieve success. Frank will inspire you to embrace “service to others” as your daily motto.

When we find our true self and live our lives in service, our lives will be successful, and we will finally align our purpose with our careers.

Frank Esposito started his own motorcycle dealership in 1971: Cross Country Cycle, a franchised dealer for BMW, SWM, Laverda, Yankee and OSSA Motorcycles. “The focus of the dealership was centered on racing,” he notes.

Frank then founded OSSA East, and became the U.S. importer and distributor of OSSA and Yankee Motorcycles, and Full-Bore Accessories. Later, he joined J C Industries, a regional distributor of motorcycle accessories, starting as a sales rep and then becoming the company’s sales manager. J C Industries was eventually acquired by Ed Tucker Distributing, which grew into Tucker Rocky Distributing, a leading national aftermarket parts, accessories and apparel distributor in North America. Frank spent more than two decades at the Texas-based Tucker Rocky, ultimately becoming its President and Chief Operating Officer.

ON STARTING A BUSINESS:

If you do all the research, build the perfect business plan, get the right staff, choose the right location, secure the right financing, you greatly reduce your risk and you greatly increase your timetable – and most likely you’ll never make it happen. Why? Because perfection is the enemy of good.

If you believe that your product or service offers a competitive advantage, make a decision. Be prepared to risk it all. There are never any guarantees. You can take a journey one step at a time, but when you face a chasm, you either stop, or you take a leap of faith. You can’t start a new business with small, comfortable steps.

In 2002, Frank became President and Vice Chairman of California-based Global Motorsport Group Inc., parent company for renowned motorcycle and powersports distributors Custom Chrome, Chrome Specialties and Motorcycle Stuff, serving North and South America, Asia and Europe.

Following his tenure at Global, Frank served as the corporate repositioning specialist for Kendon Industries Inc., where he served as company President, and then at Scorpion Sports Inc., where he was President and Chief Operating Officer. He led both companies through successful restructurings, and they continue to thrive today.

ON BUSINESS LEADERSHIP:

Great leadership places the right bets. It’s fearless. It sees over the horizon and around corners.

It may be a hard decision NOT to change, to instead keep tradition – much like Pink’s Hot Dogs or Rolex timepieces. But it also may be critical to constantly reinvent your products, like the tech and retail industries. Consider this: if Sears had visionary, fearless leaders, perhaps Amazon would not be the giant it is today.

Frank served as an elected member of the Motorcycle Industry Council Board of Directors for 14 years, was instrumental in creating the MIC’s American V-Twin Committee, and served as Chair of the MIC’s Aftermarket and Allied Trades Committee. Motorcycle Industry Magazine named Frank its 2006 Aftermarket Leader of the Year.

Frank currently serves on the board of directors for Christini Technologies, inventor of Christini All-Wheel Drive Motorcycles, voted Bike of the Year by Dirt Rider Magazine.
